Date Code

The portion of a box code giving production month and year. Cuba adopted a printed three-letter month code with a two-digit year in 2000; earlier boxes used other systems, and non-Cuban makers use their own formats.

Without a date code there is no way to verify age claims, which is why collectors buying aged boxes photograph the stamp before money changes hands.
