Flue Curing

Curing in a sealed barn heated by pipes or heat exchangers, with temperature raised in stages over roughly a week so the leaf yellows then dries fast. It preserves natural sugars and is the standard method for bright Virginia cigarette tobacco.

Cigar tobacco is almost never flue cured; knowing the difference explains why cigarette smoke is acidic and inhalable while cigar smoke is alkaline and is not.
