Pre-Embargo
Culture & Collecting
Definition
Cuban cigars imported into the United States before the 1962 embargo took effect. Genuine examples are rare, and after six decades their condition varies enormously.
Why it matters
Pre-embargo cigars command extraordinary prices and are consequently among the most frequently faked items in the hobby, so documentation matters more than the label.
In context
"Pre-embargo claims deserve more scrutiny than almost anything else on the market."
