Partagas Factory (Francisco Perez German)
Founded in 1845 on Calle Industria in Centro Habana; the historic building has been closed since 2011 but the operation continues under its revolutionary name.
The Real Fabrica de Tabacos Partagas was built on Calle Industria in 1845, directly behind the Capitolio, and for more than a century and a half it was the most visited cigar factory in the world. Its rolling gallery, with tall windows and a lector's platform, became the standard image of Cuban cigar making. After 1959 the operation took the name Francisco Perez German, as most Havana factories were renamed for revolutionary figures.
Production left the Calle Industria building in 2011 when the structure was closed for repairs that were never completed; part of a roof collapsed in 2020, closing the ground-floor La Casa del Habano as well. Rolling was distributed to other premises in Centro Habana, and the Partagas operation has continued to produce under its own factory name from those locations.
The house is responsible for several of the fullest Cuban marcas: Partagas itself, Bolivar, Ramon Allones, La Gloria Cubana and Quai d'Orsay, together with modules of Cohiba and Montecristo. Annual output has been reported at several million cigars, making it one of the largest Havana operations. The closure of the Calle Industria building removed one of Havana's most visited tourist sites as well as a working factory, and its future has not been publicly resolved.
