Definition
The lithographed imagery used on cigar boxes and bands, at its height from the 1860s through the 1920s, using multi-stone chromolithography with gold embossing. Known in the trade by terms such as inner lid label, or vista.
Why it matters
Box art is a substantial branch of commercial art history and drives a collectors' market that operates independently of the cigars themselves.
