Half-Leaf

One of the two lamina halves left after full destemming, and the standard unit in which wrapper and much binder is handled, sorted, and priced. A single wrapper is cut from a half-leaf, usually leaving a strip too small to use again.

Wrapper economics are counted in half-leaves, and the fact that a large leaf yields only two wrappers explains why wrapper dominates the raw material cost of a cigar.
