Wrapper (Capa)

Outermost leaf of the cigar, wound in a spiral from foot to head. Wrapper is the most expensive and most cosmetically demanding component, grown under shade or in full sun and selected for elasticity, fine veining, and even color. Estimates of its flavor contribution vary widely, but most makers put it well above its roughly 5 percent share of the cigar's weight.

Wrapper sets the first impression - appearance, aroma, and a disproportionate share of taste - and a cracked wrapper can ruin an otherwise well-made cigar.
