Robusto

Vitolas & ShapesSpanish
Definition
A short, thick parejo, conventionally 5 inches by 50 and set at 124 mm by 50 in the Cuban vitolario. It took over the American market in the 1990s and is still the default format for a new release.
Why it matters
The robusto gives wide-ring flavor concentration inside a forty-five minute smoke, which is why it has become the standard benchmark size for reviewing a blend.
In context
"Every brand leads with a robusto because that is what the shelf expects."
