Toasting the Foot
Smoking & Technique
Definition
Warming the exposed foot of the cigar with a flame held just off the tobacco, rotating until the rim glows evenly, before drawing any smoke.
Why it matters
Toasting establishes an even ember across the whole foot, which prevents the uneven burn and scorched notes that follow a rushed light.
In context
"He spent a slow thirty seconds toasting the foot before taking the first puff."
