Eduardo Fernandez
Founder of Aganorsa in 1998, a Nicaraguan grower whose tobacco underpins a large number of boutique brands as well as his own.
Fernandez started buying Nicaraguan farmland in 1998 and set out to re-establish Cuban-seed varieties in Jalapa and Esteli at a time when the country's reputation still rested more on volume than on leaf quality. The business was agricultural first: for years its principal product was tobacco sold to other manufacturers, and several well-regarded boutique brands were built explicitly on the strength of that supply.
He later added manufacturing, with a factory in Esteli and a rolling operation in Miami, and sold cigars under the Casa Fernandez name before consolidating the whole business under Aganorsa Leaf in 2018. That gave the company an unusual dual position, competing with the same brand owners it supplies with leaf. The Miami operation is comparatively small and is used chiefly for limited releases, while the bulk of manufacturing is done in Esteli.
Fernandez has continued to direct the business alongside his son Max. Published biographical detail is limited and largely drawn from company material, and reliable independent sources for his birth date and earlier career could not be confirmed, so this record is marked reported.
