Jalapa

Definition
A valley in Nicaragua's Nueva Segovia department, near the Honduran border, with reddish sandy soil and higher elevation than Esteli. Its tobacco is the sweetest and most floral of Nicaragua's main zones.
Why it matters
Blenders use Jalapa leaf to round off the power of Esteli filler, and a blend leaning on Jalapa will usually read medium and aromatic rather than punishing.
In context
"The Jalapa seco brought cedar and sweetness where the Esteli ligero brought pepper."
