Long Wooden Matches

Smoking & Technique
Definition
Extended matches, typically four inches or longer, sold for fireplaces and cigars. The length allows the sulphur head to burn off completely before the flame reaches the tobacco.
Why it matters
Letting the head burn away first is the whole point; a short match brings sulphur to the foot and taints the opening puffs.
In context
"Wait for the sulphur to burn off the match before you bring it near the foot."
