Punch Cut

Smoking & Technique
Definition
A circular blade that bores a hole in the center of the cap, leaving the rest of the cap intact. Punches are sized roughly 7 to 12 millimeters.
Why it matters
A punch concentrates smoke through a small aperture, which tightens the draw and keeps the cap from fraying, but it suits only round heads of adequate ring gauge.
In context
"He preferred a punch on robustos because it kept the head from unraveling."
