Purging
Smoking & Technique
Definition
Blowing gently backward through the cigar to expel stale smoke and tar from the head and the coal, typically done when the cigar has sat idle or tastes harsh.
Why it matters
Purging clears the accumulated combustion byproducts that make a neglected cigar taste sour, and it often rescues a smoke that seemed finished.
In context
"A short purge cleared the bitterness that had built up in the last third."
