Shank

AnatomyEnglish
Definition
Straight section of a cigar's body, used most often for the untapered portion of a figurado between the head taper and the foot. Usage varies by factory, and some specification sheets treat shank simply as a synonym for barrel.
Why it matters
On a torpedo or piramide the shank is where ring gauge is actually measured, since the taper is not representative of the cigar's diameter.
In context
"It is 52 at the shank, tapering to about 40 at the head."
