Cigars Davidoff, Villa Gonzalez

When Davidoff broke with Cuba at the end of the 1980s, production had to be rebuilt somewhere else, and the Dominican Republic was chosen. Manufacturing formally moved in 1991 through the Tabadom operation in the Cibao valley near Villa Gonzalez and Santiago, developed with Hendrik Kelner, whose blending work defined the Dominican Davidoff style. The move ended more than two decades of Cuban production for the brand and required a manufacturing base to be built from nothing.

The site handles the Davidoff white-label range and much of Oettinger Davidoff's wider portfolio, and it has been progressively expanded, including new production and blending facilities opened in 2025. The Cibao valley location places it in the densest concentration of Dominican tobacco growing and processing, and the company also farms in the region. Tobacco is grown and processed in the surrounding valley as well as bought in.

Davidoff's Dominican operation is one of the most tightly specified in the industry in terms of construction tolerances and quality grading, a legacy of the shift from Cuban supply to a fully controlled manufacturing base. Oettinger Davidoff also owns production in Honduras through Camacho. Kelner's role in establishing the Dominican operation makes him one of the more consequential figures in the country's cigar industry, though he never put his name on a mass-market brand.
