Definition
The dominant Dominican filler variety, grown from Cuban seed carried to the Cibao Valley around the 1960s and adapted there for decades. It produces a rich, slightly sweet filler with good body.
Why it matters
Piloto Cubano is the backbone of classic Dominican blends, and it is the reason well-made Dominican cigars taste round rather than thin.
In context
"The filler is Piloto Cubano and Olor, a pairing that has defined Santiago blending for forty years."
